At Mill Pond Dental in Mokena, IL, we understand that dental pain and injuries are stressful and urgent, and we do everything we can to see emergency patients as quickly as possible.

If you are experiencing a dental emergency, don’t wait. Call our office right away.
Not every dental concern requires an emergency visit, but some situations absolutely do. Contact our office immediately if you are experiencing:
If a tooth is knocked out, time is critical. Pick the tooth up by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently with water without scrubbing, and try to reinsert it into the socket if possible. If you cannot, keep it moist in a glass of milk or between your cheek and gum, and contact our office immediately. A knocked-out tooth has the best chance of being saved if treatment is received within an hour of the injury.
Rinse your mouth with warm salt water and take over-the-counter pain medication as directed to manage discomfort on your way to our office. Do not place aspirin directly on the gum or tooth, as this can cause tissue damage. A severe toothache often signals infection or nerve involvement that requires professional treatment.
Rinse your mouth with warm water, apply a cold compress to the outside of your face to reduce swelling, and call our office. Avoid biting down on the affected tooth until you can be seen.
A lost restoration leaves your tooth vulnerable to sensitivity and further damage. In the meantime, dental wax or temporary dental cement from a pharmacy can protect the exposed area until your appointment.
A dental abscess is a serious infection that requires immediate professional attention. Signs of an abscess include severe, throbbing pain, swelling in the face or jaw, fever, a bad taste in the mouth, and a pimple-like bump on the gum. Left untreated, dental infections can spread to the surrounding bone and tissue, and in severe cases, to other parts of the body. Do not ignore these symptoms. Call us right away.
We know that dental emergencies are already stressful, and the last thing we want is for anxiety or fear to prevent you from getting the care you need.
At Mill Pond Dental, we offer oral conscious sedation and general anesthesia administered by a licensed anesthesiologist to help you remain calm and comfortable during emergency procedures. If anxiety is a concern, please let us know when you call so we can make appropriate arrangements.
Once we have addressed your immediate pain and stabilized your condition, we will work with you to develop a longer-term treatment plan if additional care is needed. Emergency care often resolves the urgent problem, but follow-up appointments are sometimes necessary to restore the affected tooth or address underlying issues that contributed to the emergency. Our team will explain everything clearly and help you understand your options going forward.
